Check back in January for updates on our 2018 application process.
John W. Humke was a past President of the Natural Areas Association and the first state and regional director for The Nature Conservancy. In his honor, the Natural Areas Association established the John W. Humke Student Scholarship program in 2015.
Student scholarships will be up to $500 to be used for registration (includes Student-Mentor Networking lunch, NAA membership lunch, Awards Dinner, and field trip), lodging, and travel to the 2017 Natural Areas Conference. Any other expenses are the responsibility of the attendee.
We strongly encourage students to share rooms with other students. We will match you with another student if you indicate the room-sharing option on your application, and you can also list a roommate preference.
Full-time students attending accredited institutions and majoring in an applicable field such as natural resource management, biology, ecology, conservation, or related subjects are eligible to apply.
You must be a current NAA student member to be eligible for the scholarship. Not a member? Join today or join when you register for the conference, at the special student rate.
Scholarships will be awarded on a competitive basis. Priority will be given to those who present a paper or poster at the conference or are volunteers.
Abstract submission is separate from the scholarship application. Please visit our abstract page for directions on how to submit an abstract for the conference, and indicate that you are submitting a student abstract and that you would like to participate in the student competition.
All scholarship recipients are expected to volunteer at the conference. Student scholarship recipients will be contacted to discuss volunteer assignments.
Please include all of the following, with your name on each page:
